The Hans Viessmann school, a vocational school in Northern Hesse, about 60 kilometres away from ABICOR BINZEL's headquarters, had attracted about 80 interested people to a night full of technology on December 7, 2022. Technicians, industrial foremen, lecturers/teachers and of course interested vocational students attended the event. Of course, the WELDPROF® alias Prof. Dr. Emil Schubert could not miss such a night!
Man, Machine, Technology
After the welcome by the principal, who pointed out the importance of vocational training, and a greeting by the mayor, who introduced the origin of the word "robot" and with that already named a focus topic of the evening, the WELDPROF® witnessed the honoring of a long-standing employee. A nice start to the evening, because Dieter Kocab and Prof. Dr. Emil Schubert are both passionate about technology and, in particular, about welding. As a team, the two welding technology enthusiasts then took turns in the joint presentation on the topic of "Man, Machine, Technology". It became obvious that we would not get along without technology, but that there are also limits, especially in the field of automation, because as the WELDPROF® explained: "The robot is actually stupid and needs someone to tell it what to do".
Ever programmed a robot yourself?
After the theoretical part of the night, the event continued with the practical part, as visitors were able to try out a wide variety of welding technology equipment – all under the expert eyes of the WELDPROF®! ABICOR BINZEL employees had prepared a station for automated welding and another for healthy welding – i.e. welding with fume extraction. The collaborating robot on site, a so-called cobot, could even be programmed by an interested visitor after a few minutes of instruction! And the motivated attendees took the opportunity to participate in welding as well, with one volunteer testing a welding fume extraction torch. The enthusiasm continued: he now even wants to start his own business in the welding industry. WELDPROF® and its employees definitely brought technology to life that evening!
