A close look will certainly reveal that the WELDPROF® is now officially a registered trademark – Congratulations! For six months now, the ABICOR BINZEL CTO Prof. Dr. Emil Schubert has been out and about as a personal brand, bringing the diversity of welding technology closer to all interested parties through his knowledge as a Professor of Joining Technology, Materials Scientist and Doctor of Laser Technology.
On his website, you can find information about joining technology in different content formats such as videos, blogs and news in form of product, process and application knowledge in a comprehensible way and at eye level, but still technically conveyed. And all of this with a dash of humour. But there is also room for complex technical topics. A new feature will soon be the "Weld Lounge", where Professor Schubert alias WELDPROF® will invite other experts to an interesting expert talk. The preparations for this are in full swing.
Since the WELDPROF® site went online, some topics have generated particularly strong feedback from the continuously growing WELDPROF® community. These YouTube videos have received the most views:
This clearly shows the high priority meanwhile given to health and safety in welding, which is one of Professor Schubert's favourite subjects. As President of the European Welding Association (EWA) and Chairman of the DVS Expert Committee on Occupational Safety and Environmental Protection in Welding Technology, he brings forward a common goal of welding companies, equipment manufacturers, gas manufacturers, research institutes, employers' liability insurance associations and the statutory accident insurance: to ensure and improve occupational safety and environmental protection in companies.
A highlight of the last six months was the Roboter 2022 conference and trade exhibition in Fellbach in September. For two days, everything revolved around modern solutions for economic and crisis-proof manufacturing, where Professor Schubert met a fan with whom the WELDPROF® was of course happy to take the desired selfie.
In the same month, Professor Schubert supported the ABICOR BINZEL subsidiary in the USA at FABTECH 2022 in Chicago. It was gratifying to see that the WELDPROF® has achieved quite a high level of awareness among customers as well as competitors even "across the pond" within a short period of time and what he is doing is followed out there. This is due to the fact that he imparts his knowledge in an absolutely manufacturer-neutral way. At the booth of the subsidiary, weld.com – an American platform about welding on an international basis – also recorded a live podcast with WELDPROF® about the differences in welding training in America and Europe.
There was also a lot going on at ABICOR BINZEL's headquarters in Buseck! The WELDPROF® invited students of production technology from the University of Bremen to an internship day. Until now, they only knew the theory and experienced hands-on welding technology in the in-house Innovation and Technology Centre ITC. All were challenged to weld themselves and for some it was the first time to hold a welding torch in their hands. New followers were gained who can now further expand their knowledge with the help of the WELDPROF®.
In 2023, such an event will definitely take place again. The course for this has already been set: Through the many activities and its presence in social media, a contact with the Jade University in Wilhelmshaven that had existed for many years has been renewed. Professor Partes, who also teaches welding technology there, is expected to come to the ABICOR BINZEL headquarters with his students. In addition, he will receive welding equipment as support for his lectures next year and a WELDPROF® lecture at this technical college is also planned.
Since the schedule of the WELDPROF® is always very tight, the shooting dates have to be well planned. Then it's a matter of getting as many topics as possible "in the can" on one shooting date, ideally without repetitions. Thanks to his concentrated way of working, the WELDPROF® can produce up to eight shots in half a day – four in German, four in English language And always with great fun. It's just a pity that only a few outtakes are produced. However, physical circumstances are not always predictable, even for the WELDPROF®. But just see for yourself.
In general, every visitor to the WELDPROF® website can ask him specific questions via »Ask the WELDPROF®«. He will be happy to answer them by e-mail or in one of his video formats. Interaction with interested parties from the world of welding and joining technology is expressly desired!
